The Chair of the South West Local Health Integration Network believes the Hanover Hospital is running smoothly.
The hospital board met earlier this week to discuss their finances and the status of their initiatives.
Norm Gamble says although the LHIN is working with hospitals to help them from a cash crunch, Gamble believes the Hanover hospital is considering other funding sources for specific programs.
He says the hospital has been working for a number of years to create a nuclear medicine program, which is currently only available in our region at the Owen Sound hospital and a London hospital.
Gamble says they may have to look at a broader picture, and get the whole Grey-Bruce region involved to get such a program off the ground, but they also have to watch they don’t spread their resources too thin.
The board also presented Gamble with their financial statement for the past year, and the hospital has come out with a $50,000 surplus.
Gamble says all 20 hospitals within the LHIN have been asked to submit budget projections for the next two years, and the Hanover hospital is one of 16 that don’t expect to be in a defecit position.
Gamble says the hospital will at least break even in the short-term financial future, and Hanover looks like one of the “healthier” hospitals in our region.
