Coming up with ways to improve the appearance of Saugeen Shores.
Bill Hollo — Bruce Countys Deputy Director of Planning — made a presentation at last Mondays Council meeting to explain the purpose of the Community Based Design Initiative project and what it will mean for the Town..
Hollo says Kara Van Myall will heading a team from Bruce County and the focus will be primarily on the Highway 21 corridor from Southampton to Port Elgin.
Hollo says there has been a need for site plan guidelines for new development and to retain the old standards for building and design.
He says that is what the Community Based Design Initiative is about.
Hollo suggests that the Town organize a workshop sometime in late July to bring residents and stakeholders in one place to exchange thoughts and ideas.
Hollo says this will bring representatives from different interests working together to find common solutions.
He says people are invited to bring in photos, designs, and other submissions
He says it will be an interesting process and there will be some disagreements along the way but it will end up developing a set of community interests that can be defined.
Hollo hopes to have a greater sense of design principals in the community from this workshop.
He says he would also like to see a set of guidelines the Town can use when giving approvals for streetscape improvements and that individuals can follow when improving the look of their own properties.
While the date of July 18th has been thrown around, staff have been asked to come up with a more suitable date for the workshop.
