Huron Bruce MP Paul Steckle says he’s going to vote against allowing Bill C-51 to proceed further in Parliament.
Bill C-51 would amend the Food and Drug Act, and rallies have been held in Canada in opposition.
The Bill addresses the sale of non-prescription herbal medications and supplements, and some of Steckle’s constituents believe it may result in strict regulations.
An e mail has been circulating in the Kincardine area, asking MPs to vote the Bill down.
The e mail suggests the Bill would make it impossible to get even popular supplements like Cold FX, Lakota, and Glucosamine without a prescription from a medical doctor.
Steckle says it’s a government bill that has received first reading and would go on for further exploration by committee.
Steckle says he really wants to see the topic discussed and explored further but believes if he votes in favour of the bill, his constituents would believe he supports it.
