Making some noise about health care funding, may have helped the Hanover and District hospital.
The chief of the staff, Doctor Bob Basilij complained the provinces’ funding for wait times had a double standard when it comes to rural hospitals.
He was very critical of the lack of funding for screening for colorectal cancer.
In 2007, Hanover did not get funding for colorectal cancer screening because the number of scopes done there was below the cutoff criteria.
Now, the CEO of Hanover and District hospital Katrina Wilson is reporting some movement on the issue.
She is working with the Local Health Integrated Network on reviewing the numbers and Wilson is fairly confident they will be included in the funding soon.
The CEO says she understands the province needs some sort of cutoff number on what it will fund but Hanover is very close to that cutoff number.
Wilson doesn’t know how much money might come from Queens Park, but she says just being included in a study on wait times would be helpful.
