Another effort underway to encourage local consumers to purchase local food.
Bruce County Tourism along with the Bruce County Cattlemen’s Association are embarking on a campaign to promote Bruce County Beef.
Tourism head Chris Hughes says they will be creating a special web site promoting Big Bruce beef brand and also use it to education the public about the cattle industry in the region.
He says they want to profile and talk to producers, video tape them and put their story and the story of their animals on the website to help educate the consumer as to the importance of supporting local farmers and beef cattlemen.
Hughes says its ludicrous that some of the best beef in Canada is produced in Bruce County, but much of that product is not available in local stores.
He says in addition to the website, aging billboards will be replaced promoting the local cattle industry.
Hughes says as consumers become more educated about the local food, they will begin to pressure their local supermarkets to start stocking and selling Bruce County beef.
