Saugeen Shores now has a guidemap as to how to spruce up its downtown business core in Port Elgin.
Council has accepted a proposed Streetscape and Facade improvement plan from consultant Sean Kelly.
Streetscape calls for plenty of greenery, thematic lamp posts, benches and sidewalks on both sides of Goderich Street from Elgin to Emma Streets.
Kelly says they also showed what a facade program would do using three volunteer buildings including the Bricker and Queens buildings.
Kelly says the finished result shows what it could be like if business owners wanted to compliment what would be done with the Streetscape plan.
He says from there, all business owners could take part in the process.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith says with the Streetscape plan coming with a 1.2 million dollar price tag, any work is going to take time.
Smith says he sees the total project taking eight to ten years at least.
He says though, at least now they have a plan in place and further discussion on the viability of it will take place at budget time.
