The Canadian Inter-university Sport (CIS) Great Lakes Women’s Hockey Challenge is coming to Kincardine.
Co-organizer Josh Howald was before town council recently looking for a break on ice rental costs.
Council agreed and decided not to charge the two thousand dollars for ice time at the Davidson Centre.
Howald says some of the best players in women’s hockey in Canada will be in Kincardine for a weekend tournament, September 30th to October 3rd.
He says four teams from Regina, Lethbridge, Guelph and York Universities will be on the ice.
Howald says the event is completely volunteer run and all proceeds from the tournament will go towards the Davidson Centre Revitilization Fund.
The group hopes to raise four thousand dollars.
Howald says the tournament will be good economically for local businesses and it should generate media and fan interest across Canada.
He says the tournament came together a few months ago when the Regina squad, coached by Howald’s sister, voted to come to Kincardine.
Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer says the project is a win-win-win situation.
He says it helps businesses in the town and provides great advertising for the area and any money made is going to be donated to the Davidson Centre.
