There were no losers at the Rec Centre Hockey Challenge in Owen Sound.
It took place Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre — and was a fundraiser for the new Regional Recreation Centre.
Before the game even started — sponsor Bruce Power announced a donation of 125 thousand dollars to the campaign.
More than 76 thousand dollars was raised through the game, raffles, a pre-game auction while the day before CIBC announced a donation of 150 thousand dollars.
Those totals combined leave the local fundraising group with more than a quarter of a million dollars towards the building in one weekend alone.
Local campaign officials had already collected more than 70 per cent towards a five million dollar goal prior to the goal.
The game itself featured featured local celebrities and MP’s on the ice with plenty of laughs at times for spectators.
Unofficially — it ended in a 4-4 tie between Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller’s Conservatives and the Rec Centre Squad.
The new Rec centre is slated to open in Owen Sound next spring and is worth more than 38 million dollars.
