The fight against cancer continues in Owen Sound tonight.
The annual Relay for Life is taking place at Harrison Park — beginning at 7 PM — and it continues until 7 AM on Saturday.
The timing of the event symbolizes that cancer doesn’t sleep so the fight never stops.
The Relay is a fundraiser — and also a 12 hour celebration for cancer survivors, to remember loved ones lost to the disease and to fight back against it.
The funds raised help support Cancer Research, programs and support services for cancer patients and their families in Grey Bruce.
Media Chair Cam Henderson tells Bayshore Broadcasting News one of the highlights is the opening ceremonies with the Survivors Victory Lap.
Henderson notes another special moment will be at dusk when hundreds of luminaries will light up the night.
Each luminary will have the name of a cancer survivor or someone who has lost their battle with cancer.
Henderson adds people are welcome at their Harrison Park site if they want to make a donation or pledge someone.
He hopes they can raise more money than they raised last year — which totalled 45 thousand dollars as about 300 people participated.
