OPP officers on our roads are keeping a closer eye out for drivers using hand-held phones while at the wheel.
This week is the latest in a series of weeks where police are putting extra effort into nabbing drivers who still text or talk on a hand-held phone while driving.
Fines are 155 dollars if you’re caught phoning or texting, 110 dollars if you’re watching your ipod or other entertainment device.
Huronia West OPP constable Mark Kinney says the vast majority of drivers are paying attention, but the ones who are using these devices, are dangerous.
Previous campaigns appear to be working.
Up to September of last year, 55 crashes in Ontario were blamed on distracted drivers.
This year, it’s 35.
The OPP also say they’ve handed out 10-thousand tickets so far this year, double the previous year when the new legislation came into effect.
