Kincardine has taken the first step into perhaps one day becoming a centre for higher learning.
The Lake Huron Learning centre in Kincardine held an open house, showing what they have to offer to those who may be looking to complete high school or to move on to college or university.
The centre is home to an e-learning program for those wishing to take high learning courses without leaving Kincardine; adult learning for those who have left school and want to return; a program for those looking to start their own businesses and the Penatangore Regional Economic Development office.
E-Learning coordinator Joelene Murphy says they have over 800 programs on line and 10 thousand different courses available.
Murphy says across Ontario similar e-learning programs are helping some 12 thousand students with post secondary education.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says the centre, to him, is a dream come true, after a lot of hard work by a lot of people.
However, he says, it’s only the first step in trying to make Kincardine a higher learning centre in Huron Bruce.
The centre was established after Ontario Power Generation provided a 500 thousand dollar grant, along with some senior level government money.
