It will be two years before planned affordable housing comes to Saugeen Shores.
Manager of Bruce County Housing Susan Earle says she recently got approval to go ahead with preliminary work for a 30 unit townhouse in Port Elgin on Joseph Street.
Earle says there is a lot of work to do though before construction would even begin.
That includes going to the ministery of municipal affairs and housing for approval to sell 9 existing single family houses in Port Elgin.
Proceeds from the sale of those houses will be used for the 30 unit townhouse.
She says preliminary plans need to be drawn up and Saugeen Shores council has to re-zone and sever the land in question; council has already said it would donate the land.
Proceeds from the sale of those houses will be used for the 30 unit townhouse build.
Earle says those who will live in the units will be comprised of those currently living in Saugeen Shores, and those on a waiting list.
