Thousands of people are fighting against Parkinson’s Disease this weekend.
The annual Superwalk is being held at Victoria Park in Kincardine and at the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority in Owen Sound today.
Registration for both walks is at 1 PM today and they begin at 2 PM.
A similar walk was held in Hanover on Saturday,
Lucy Gowers is the Community Development Co-ordinator for the Parkinson’s Society in Grey and Bruce.
Gowers tells Bayshore Broadcasting News this is their biggest fundraiser for the year — and she hopes they can raise over 20 thousand dollars today.
Parkinson’s is described as a slow, progressive, neurological disorder that makes the simplest tasks — like walking or eating — overwhelmingly difficult.
The most common symptoms are tremors, slowness in movements, muscle stiffness and problems with balance.
Other symptoms may include fatigue, difficulties with speech and writing, sleep disorders, depression and cognitive changes.
There are more than 90 walks across the country — and more than 13 thousand people are expected to take part.
The annual Superwalk has raised 20 million dollars since it began in 1990.
