“Operation Gratitude” is set to go Saturday at the Owen Sound Legion.
It is a way for legion members and the community to acknowledge the end of the combat mission in Afghanistan.
Spokesperson Lawrence Surridge tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the event also recognizes the sacrifice of the Veterans and their families.
Surridge — himself a 34 year war veteran — hopes members of the community will join with veterans of all ages as they say thanks for the work of our troops in Afghanistan.
He says it is also a chance for veterans of the conflict to meet up with comrades who were also in the war.
There are some 80 Afghan war vets in the Meaford area.
Operation Gratitude is at the Owen Sound legion from 2 PM until 5 PM on Saturday.
Surridge says as part of the events at the legion — they will donate three thousand dollars to the Military Resource Centre in Meaford.
The money is from the sale of those yellow ribbons by the Owen Sound branch.
