Cancer doesn’t sleep and over 200 people in Hanover will not tonight.
The Hanover’s Racetrack will be aglow with candles Friday evening as over 200 people participate in this year’s Relay for Life event.
Chair Nancy Mellish says the night is about remembering those we’ve lost to cancer, celebrating those who have survived cancer and fighting back through research and treatment to eradicate cancer.
She says the night will be an emotional rollercoaster with lots of tears of joy and sorrow.
Mellish says one of the most touching moments of the evening will take place at 8:30 PM — when the luminaries will be lit.
These are candles that represent a loved one who is battling cancer, survived cancer, or lost their battle to cancer.
Last minute teams are welcomed to show up, or if you prefer you can drop by the race track and make a personal donation.
Relay participants will be on the track from 7 PM till 7 AM tomorrow.
Over the last five years — the Hanover Relay for Life event has raised just over 700 thousand dollars.
Mellish says every dollar counts and encourages the public to come out and support this worthy cause.
There will be live entertainment, food and of course lots of walking, laughing and a few tears.
