The 17th Annual Big Band Celebration is taking place this weekend in Port Elgin and Southampton.
Music from the Lake Huron Dance Hall Pavilions from the 1920’s through to the 1960’s will be celebrated.
Organizer Charlie Bell says the Friday night is like a sophisticated pub crawl.
For just 15 dollars on Friday night you can join the Jazz pub crawl at 8 different venues between Port Elgin and Southampton — shuttle is included in that price.
The big event on Saturday takes place at the CAW Main Assembly Hall on the Shoreline of Lake Huron — from 1 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM.
Bell says it features dance music of the 1950’s and 60’s performed by the Lulu’s Band and Men in Black brassline, admission is just five dollars.
And the music from the 1930’s and 40’s will performed by the Canadian Big Band featuring many of Canada’s top jazz and big band musicians, admission for the main event is 30 dollars.
It doesn’t stop there, Bell says there’s a Sunday Jazz brunch prepared by CAW Executive Chef Paul Johnston with music from Toronto’s Bourbon Street Busker’s Dixieland band.
