It could be two months before services resume out of the Courthouse in Goderich after the deadly tornado on August 21st.
Huron County Director of Social Services Dave Overboe says the building is structurally sound and there is nothing wrong with it or the foundation.
But windows were broken due to the high winds from the tornado and some minor water damage got in before they could board up the windows.
Overboe says another major issue was the HVAC units on the top of the building were blown loose and the ventilation system cleared everything into the building.
Overboe tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they’ve been conducting tests inside the building and did find asbestos in some areas.
That means workers will have to wear full protective gear with respirators.
Overboe says that will lengthen the work period because everything will have to be decontaminated.
He’s estimating it will take about six to eight weeks before anyone can get back into the court house and resume business.
