This is the day many kids have been dreading — while some parents call it the most wonderful time of the year.
It’s back to school today — and Police are reminding motorists to keep an eye out for kids who are walking and running to class.
Owen Sound Community Services Officer Chris Hartley says you must stop for a school bus with its lights flashing — even on four lane roads.
If you don’t — it could cost you a 500 dollar fine and 6 demerit points.
Constable Hartley says parents should also review safe back to school habits with their kids.
For example — go over the planned route, make sure the kids always walk on sidewalks and always use the crossing guard.
Hartley says parents should also speak to their children about the importance of getting on and off buses safely — and to obey all school bus rules at all times.
Hartley says motorists should also keep alert in school zones for kids darting behind vehicles.
Hartley notes they went a full school year without any injuries in Owen Sound last year — and they want to repeat that again this year.
