Each year, an unorganized event known as the River Run takes place along the Saugeen River on the Sunday of the long holiday weekend in May.
This year, Saugeen Shores Police plan to be prepared more than ever.
Chief Dan Rivett says they, along with auxiliary, community watch, OPP and the Ministry of Natural Resources will be patrolling the river.
Rivett says last year, ten liquor charges were issued, beer and alcohol was seized, tickets were issued for not having safety equipment, and a few arrests were made.
He says they also had a case where an intoxicated person passed out in their boat, and had to be rescued.
In another case, another intoxicated person suffered from hypothermia, after falling from his canoe, and making his way to a house on County Road 17 through the woods.
Rivett says they will not stand for partying that takes place on an island near the entrance of the river at Concession 4 either.
Rivett says it is private property.
He says hundreds of partiers have in the past parked on the island, lit campfires, thrown garbage and smashed beer bottles.
Rivett warns police will be ready to turn any would be partiers away from the private island this year.
Rivett says they do want people to have fun, but to do it safely and legally.
