The annual Bruce County Plowing Match is being held today.
Traditionally it’s held on a Friday — but the event was moved to Monday because of the Canadian Plowing Championships in Owen Sound last week.
Cheryl Leifso is a volunteer with the Bruce County Plowmen’s Association.
She says they are anticipating a large crowd because their event falls on a holiday this year.
Leifso says they have invited the participants from the Canadian Plowing Championships to attend.
The traditional plowing matches will be held today, but Leifso notes they also have a number of other events, exhibits and games for the entire family.
There is the popular beef barbeque lunch at Noon, and the new Queen of the Furrow will be crowned today.
The four contestants include Amy Ribey of Paisley, Sabrina Clark of Walkerton, Alisha Scott of Teeswater and Krista Young of Elmwood.
Leifso — a former Queen herself — says each contestant will have to make a speech, take part in an interview and plow.
Leifso also expects a number of candidates in the provincial election to attend.
This year’s plowing match is taking place at the farm of Ron and Janice Hammell on Bruce Road 10 south of Tara.
Leifso says their event is a great way for the community to celebrate agriculture and meet their neighbours.
