Kincardine is planning to bring municipal water and sewer service to Inverhuron and that has some 40 cotttagers who live on Lake Street, South, upset.
Spokesperson Don Stewart made a presentation to council recently — stating that they already have an existing sewer line but the project calls for the line to be replaced.
Stewart says the sewer line was installed in 1992 and has a 50-year life span and there’s no need for a new sewer line which they estimate will cost up to 800 thousand dollars to install.
The engineer in the proposed project says in order to put in water services, the sewers would have to be replaced.
Stewart asked council to meet with the engineers to see if there are alternatives to putting in water lines so as not to incur the additional cost.
He says there are many seniors who live on the street that wouldn’t be able to afford the cost of the new, unnecessary sewers.
Councillors agreed with the presentation and will be setting up a meeting with the engineers to re-visit the project.
