A fundraising effort at the Bruce Power site has raised 180 thousand dollars for the recovery and rebuilding efforts in Goderich.
Employees, unions and the company came together to raise the money for the town.
Goderich Mayor Deb Shewfelt says he was both impressed and thankful for all the support.
Shewfelt says “This incredible generosity from Bruce Power’s employees is the largest fundraising donation yet and we look forward to putting these funds to good use. “
In a news release, Bruce Power says the 180 thousand dollars will be directed towards the immediate recovery efforts, and for the replacement of mature trees and repairing damage to the town’s beautiful downtown core.
President and CEO Duncan Hawthorne says he is very proud of the employees, unions and company to have raised a significant amount of money in such a short period of time.
The fundraising effort on the Bruce Power site consisted of a gate collection that was matched dollar-for-dollar by the company.
The two main unions on site, The Society of Energy Professionals and the Power
Workers’ Union, contributed 10 thousand dollars to the fundraising effort, which was also matched by Bruce Power.
