The Ontario government is pitching in one million dollars for a new seed processing plant east of Wingham.
Pioneer Canada will receive local canola seeds and then process, package and ship them back out to farmers for the next growing season.
President Ian Grant says they’ll be creating nine full-time positions and about 50 to 60 seasonal jobs to double parent seed production for the company.
Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell says they’re strengthening Huron County and rural Ontario through this grant.
Mitchell says even just providing seasonal jobs helps out the community, the economy and the agri-food industry.
She says combining the processing sector and the agricultural raw product from local farmers makes a huge impact on the overall strength of the industry.
The facility is costing about 15 million dollars to Pioneer overall and will likely open sometime in the fall of 2012.
