The sixth annual Relay For Life in Kincardine was another big success, bringing in over 61 thousand dollars for cancer research.
Event Chair, Patricia Holder, says 200 people took part in the 12 hour fund raising event at the Davidson Centre Friday Night.
The Canadian Cancer Society Bluewater Unit holds the unique 12-hour overnight event — to symbolize that cancer doesn’t sleep.
Approximately 65 cancer survivors opened Relay with the Survivors’ Victory Lap and hundreds of luminaries were lit at dusk to remember those lost to or touched by the disease.
Relay for Life is a celebration of survival, a tribute to the lives of loved ones, and a night of fun, friendship, and fundraising to beat cancer.
Holder says with the over 61 thousand dollars raised this year — it brings the 6-year total for the Kincardine event to almost 543 thousand dollars ($542,792).
The Money raised thru the Kincardine Relay for Live helps the Canadian Cancer Society fund promising research, implement prevention programs, and provide local services to cancer patients and their families.
There are two other Relay For Life events taking place locally — in Hanover on September 9th and Owen Sound on September 16th.
