A big donation today for the Owen Sound Regional Rec Centre.
Don DesJardine and his two sons Martin and Jeff announced a gift of 100 thousand dollars to the Rec Centre’s fundraising campaign.
Campaign Co-chair Sonya Mount calls this donation a “leadership donation” since it emphasizes the importance of the project.
DesJardine says the gift was an opportunity to say thank you for everything that Owen Sound has given to him.
DesJardine has lived in Owen Sound for about 40 years — working in the financial sector while playing hockey with his sons.
The DesJardine’s join a growing group of over 500 donors who have supported the 39 million dollar project at Victoria Park.
Mount says they have now raised between 60 and 70 per cent of their five million dollar goal.
The Regional Rec Centre includes two arenas, a competition sized pool, a therapeutic pool, fitness centre and running track.
The facility is on schedule to open in spring 2012.
