A two day Traffic safety blitz by Owen Sound police resulted in numerous charges being laid.
It was held Wednesday and Thursday in the Scenic City and police report several traffic violations that often lead to collisions.
The initiative was designed to provide enforcement and education in areas of the city with high traffic volumes and collision rates.
Inspector Vince Wurfel says it also provided officers an opportunity to educate drivers on safe driving habits.
In addition to speeding offences, the enforcement statistics include:
– 8 offences for disobeying a traffic signal
– 12 offences for disobeying a traffic sign
– 4 offences for using hand-held devices (cell phones)
– 3 offences for failing to signal/ unsafe lane changes
– 4 adult seatbelt offences and one child restraint offence
Numerous cyclists and pedestrians were also educated on rules of the road and bicycle safety equipment by Owen Sound police officers.
No charges were laid in relation to cyclists or pedestrians.
Inspector Wurfel says one woman who was charged with using a cell phone while driving, had been involved in a crash earlier this month, in which a contributing cause was the other driver being distracted by using a cell phone.
The Owen Sound Police Service will be continuing there efforts toward collision reduction and road safety.
