The new owners of the Owen Sound Marina have received site plan approval to begin redeveloping the property.
The development at the site — now called Georgian Shores Marina — will include the construction of an addition to the marina building, the relocation of the existing chandlery and the building of a new floating dock and stairs.
A new RV dumping station will be added to the washroom building and the chandlery will receive new water and sewer service as well as new above ground fuel storage tanks.
Owen Sound’s Director of Community Services Pam Coulter says this is the first phase of the city’s future vision for the marina.
The marina was bought out of receivership last year by a group that includes local businessmen Peter and Bob Van Dolder.
Coulter feels it ties in nicely with the city’s desire to make the entire waterfront more accessible to the public.
She tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the city looks forward to working with the new owners as they move forward.
The six-acre site also includes a vacant restaurant most recently known as the Rusty Gull.
But Coulter says the restaurant is not included in these plans and it’s not clear yet what the owners intend to do with it.
