It will cost more to be driven around in Kincardine.
Council accepted a recommendation by the Police Services Board to adopt new taxi rates in the Municipality.
The new rates will see a one-dollar increase for the first 100 metres to 3 dollars and 70 cents, and a 5-cent increase for each additional 100 metres to 25 cents.
There will also be an increase in rates for wait times.
Councillor Marsha Leggett says it has been years since the last time the three taxi companies in Kincardine were allowed to increase their rates.
She says the increase is not that much adding it is only fair to let them increase the rates.
Leggett says they have a business to run with fuel, wages, and insurance costs to cover.
She says if they can’t make any money and they go out of business then there is a chance only one cab company will left standing and have a monopoly in that area.
Leggett says there will be no pricing war between the three cab companies.
She says passengers can expect fares to be the same otherwise they are urged to report any discrepancies to the Municipality.
