Wiarton Library is closed today, after staff complained about a strong chemical smell in the building.
Supervisor Clair Drury tells Bayshore Broadcasting News she is one of the people feeling the effects.
Carpets were cleaned in the Ross Whicher building on Monday, and fumes are irritating the eyes and throats of staff members.
As a result, she decided to close the Library Tuesday.
Drury isn’t sure why there is such a problem with the carpet cleaning, since it hasn’t happened in the past.
She wonders if the high humidity simply didn’t allow the carpets to dry — and the strong chemical smell is lasting much longer as a result.
Large industrial fans have been brought in to air out the Library in Wiarton and it should be open on Wednesday.
There are other departments in the Ross Whicher building on Brown street in Wiarton, but Drury isn’t sure if any of those have been as affected by the smell.
