It was an interim report card on the condition of the 100 year old Southampton Town Hall at Saugeen Shores council.
In a nutshell, heritage consultant Thor Dingman says the building is in pretty good shape considering its age.
Dingman says after a careful study of the exterior and interior of the facility, he doesn’t forsee any major re-construction or renovation.
In a slide presentation on Monday night — Dingman showed that there were a couple of spots where masonry would have to be improved and some windows needed sprucing up and there might be the odd leak here and there but minor repairs should alleviate that.
Inside, the building needs to be made more accessible.
Dingman will have further reports from the community and a possible costing of what needs to be done in the Fall.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith he was quite pleased with the report.
He admits the space is under-utilized and he hopes the consultant can come back with community input on how the building should be used.
The consultant’s report came on the 100th anniversary of the Town Hall as the regular council meeting was being held in the building.
