Everyone better be playing nice on our waterways especially over the next couple of days.
Joint Marine Enforcement exercises are going to be conducted with the RCMP, the OPP and Saugeen Shores Police services taking part.
From the RCMP team, Corporal Brady Young says their 70-foot boat will be on Lake Huron Tuesday and Wednesday and generally looking for international border infractions such as carrying drugs or cigarettes from one country to another.
Acting Sergeant Paul Richardson and Constable Nigel Heels, both of the Bruce Peninsula OPP out of Wiarton, say they patrol the waterways from Tobermory to Grand Bend looking for alcohol and safety equipment infractions on boats.
Heels says as of last week, the OPP had 13 marine-related fatalities on OPP monitored waters.
He says 12 were not wearing life jackets.
Saugeen Shores Police Chief Dan Rivett says the message is simple.
For the next couple of days it’s zero tolerance and if there are infractions on the waterways a ticket is likely to be issued.
Monday is an education day with the equipment of the three forces on display at the Port Elgin Harbour.
Everyone is welcome until 7 PM Monday to take a look and tour the boats.
