Ontario Green party leader Mike Schreiner is being pro-active and launching a campaign to get into any upcoming provincial leaders debate.
The Ontario election is October 6th, and no date has been set for any debate.
However, Schreiner says he thought he would get a jump on the issue and has created a website called www.LetMikeSpeak.ca
Schreiner is the candidate in Simcoe-Grey and he says there was been a ground-swell of support for his drive to be admitted into the campaign.
In the first week of having the web-site set up, he claims some 15 hundred people have signed a petition in favour of the Green leader being allowed to speak.
Schreiner is hopeful he can be successful, like Federal Green party leader Elizabeth May was in 2008. (May was not admitted this year)
As far as local ridings go, Schreiner is optimistic about the partys’ chances.
He says the party received over 8 per cent support provincially in the last vote or about 355 thousand votes.
Locally, Green party candidates finished as high as second with 33.14 percent of the vote.
With Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch retiring, Schreiner feels his party has an excellent chance of winning the riding this October.
