There is a proposal to form a new economic development corporation.
The new group would incorporate Grey and Bruce Counties, Saugeen Economic Development Corporation and Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation.
The idea come forward to Grey County recently from the Chair of the Grey Bruce Regional Economic Development Partnership, Steve Furness.
Town of the Blue Mountains Deputy Mayor Duncan McKinlay says its hard to come to grips on how to deal with economic development.
McKinlay says there are regional economic development initiatives, adding many municipalities also have local economic development officers.
He says the county needs to look at who’s doing what and how we can integrate and be effective.
McKinlay says Grey County is disadvantaged with not being close to a 400-series highway.
He says this area will never attract a large plant with four thousand employees, but adds the county could make it easier for small businesses in rural areas to expand.
Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell says it would be beneficial for both Grey and Bruce to work together on economic development.
However, Grey County’s planning and community development committee will wait for more information prior to making a long term commitment to the initiative.
