Today is Tom Thomson’s birthday.
And you can find out more about the life of the revered painter of the Canadian wild at a special lecture tonight at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound.
Author Roy MacGregor has written his second book about Tom Thomson and the mystery surrounding his death.
He will talk about his book and his findings but he also hopes tonight’s crowd will bring an open mind about the story.
The lecture is free and begins at 7 PM.
It’s part of the official opening of the exhibit called “the Canadian Spirit” — an exhibition of about 70 artworks and artifacts from Tom Thomson.
Marketing and Development Assistant Leanne Wright says they are building on the exhibit from Kitchener earlier this year.
Wright adds they are also going to dedicate more space at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery to a larger, permanent exhibit of Thomson’s work.
MacGregor says the Art Gallery is a real Canadian treasure that many people don’t know about.
His book book is called “Northern Light: the enduring mystery of Tom Thomson and the woman who loved him.”
