A team from West Hill Secondary School in Owen Sound has taken second place at the International Envirothon Competition at Sackville, New Brunswick.
There were 54 teams from across Canada and the United States involved in the competition late last week.
It tests students knowledge about the environment through a variety of challenges, including written tests, field tests and oral presentations.
West Hill Grade 12 student David Beisel says the competition was tough and they went into hoping to finish in the top five.
Instead, they ended up 2nd overall — the best finish for an Ontario environmental team in the 24 year history of the competition.
The West Hill Secondary Students involved in the Envirothon each get a four thousand dollar scholarship from Canon, to be used at the University of College of their choice.
Beisel is returning to West Hill in the fall and is hopeful he can get involved in the Environmental competitions again.
