You’ve probably noticed the new signs in Southampton and Port Elgin that direct you to various tourist areas and services the town has to offer.
The signs have the information on one side and the other side is blank gray space.
Board member of the Southampton Residents Association Mike Stirling has come up with an idea to brighten up those three by three square signs.
He told a recent association meeting he has approached the Southampton Art School and the town with the thought of putting local heritage artwork on the blank sides of the 20 signs or so in Southampton.
Stirling says he’s received no negative feedback on the idea.
He would like to see a prototype developed so they can get a handle on price and then decide from there whether to proceed.
Stirling says the artwork, chosen by the Art School, would be laminated and put up with the idea that the artwork could be changed from time to time for variety’s sake.
