The Canadian Cancer Society in Grey Bruce is looking for a few good men or women.
The Bluewater Unit needs people interested in driving cancer patients who live in Grey Bruce to and from their cancer related appointments.
Manager Anne Marie Watson tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they have had some volunteers take time off for the summer — so they need more people.
Watson says while there is more chemotherapy locally — other residents still have to travel to London, Toronto and even Hamilton for treatment.
Watson notes many of the clients are either seniors who can’t drive anymore or people who don’t have help locally.
Watson notes they wouldn’t be able to provide the service without the commitment of and valuable help of volunteer drivers.
Last year 130 local volunteer drivers took 256 area patients over 857 thousand kilometres to their cancer related appointments.
Watson says its a great opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life and be part of a team, learn new skills and make new friends.
