There is a changing of the guard in the Media Relations department for Grey County OPP.
Steve Starr has retired from the job he has done for close to seven years as part of his 31 year career in policing.
Starr says he has loved his time dealing with the local media and informing the public about police activities.
Starr tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the media plays an important role in policing because their message through the media has helped solve many cases.
Starr feels policing has changed more in the last 30 years than any other time he can remember — whether it be the Charter of Rights and Freedoms or the computers.
Alina Grelik replaces Starr as the Media Relations Officer for Grey County OPP.
Grelik has been working with Starr in the job since the beginning of July — and she admits it has been a challenge at times.
Grelik — who is in her 20th year as a police officer — says she has to get use to the fact that it’s a different type of policing.
Starr says he has no major plans for retirement — he plans to stick close to home and enjoy the extra time he will now have.
