Port Elgin native Jeff Preston is getting an education on the needs of accessible public transportation for the handicapped.
Preston is into his tenth day of the his 47-day trek across the province bringing the message that the transportation systems need to adapt to the needs of the handicapped, rather than the reverse.
On Soundingboard today Preston said his visit to Cambridge and Kitchener/Waterloo left much to be desired when it came to accessible transporation.
He says the same problems exist in those communities that exist in London, Ontario, which resulted in his protest/education trip in the first place.
Preston says all he wants to do is get the same treatment and equal access to transportation that everyone else enjoys.
He says it simply is not happening in all communities.
Preston’s journey will take him through Toronto where he will address the Ontario Legislature on May 26th, before he continues on to Ottawa.
Personally, Preston says he has to make sure he gets enough sleep and enough to eat in order to have the energy to do everything he wants to do.
He says he feels good and aside from the odd rainy day, everything is going fine.
Preston checks in on Soundingboard next on May 29th, shortly after his visit with Toronto Mayor David Miller.
