2011 has been a good year for the town of Hanover.
The town is projecting a surplus of at least 100 thousand dollars by year end.
Director of Corporate Services Christine Walker says the taxes have been collected, the slot money is in, and the books look good.
She warns, however, a harsh winter could dramatically reduce the projected surplus down to just 40 or 50 thousand dollars.
Walker says it will all depend on what Old Man Winter throws at us.
She says because it involves Mother Nature, setting the roads budget is always a bit of a gamble.
Walker credits staff for the projected surplus saying they have worked hard to find savings and cut costs.
Last year Hanover was fortunate enough to end the year with a 230 thousand dollar surplus.
And while this year’s projected amount is less than half of this, Walker says it’s still very good news for the town.
