It’s taken a lot of time, money and effort — but Brockton now has its own Recreation and Leisure Services Master Plan.
The three phase, 10 year plan covers everything from new soccer fields and a multi use facility to a new arena boasting two ice pads.
It cost about 40 thousand dollars to develop the plan.
Consultant Frank Galloway says phase one will focus on the creation of four new soccer fields for Brockton’s fastest growing sport.
Phase two involves developing a multi use recreation space that will house a double gym, meeting rooms, multi purpose rooms, fitness rooms, changing rooms and a computer gaming room as well.
Phase three will focus on developing an arena with a single ice pad that will evolve into a twin pad over the next five to ten years.
The plan also includes improvements to Brockton’s current trail systems and parklands.
There are also recommendations to construct a skateboard park, splash pad and dog park.
The most important recommendation however is the development of a Business Plan to ensure all these projects will be shovel ready in the event of another round of government infrastructure funding.
Galloway says the best way to secure government dollars is through a well thought out and carefully planned business case.
It’s estimated the soccer fields, multi use facility and ice pads will cost about 24 million dollars.
A splash pad could cost up to 350 thousand dollars and each new soccer field will run about 400 thousand dollars each.
Brockton is now going to ask its user groups to study the Recreation Master Plan and identify their priority projects.
