Ontario New Democratic Party leader Andrea Horwath says it’s time to get back to a public power system in Ontario which includes the development and creation of wind turbine farms.
Horwath tells Bayshore Broadcasting News she would like to see more public input into the location and development of these green energy farms.
However, in promising more public participation she stops short of giving the power back to municipalities when it comes to zoning matters in order to regulate the turbine industry.
Horwath says she needs to talk with the municipalities about the rights they should have when it comes to turbine development.
Horwath did say Ontario Power Generation needs to be the public supplier of all energy, effectively eliminating the myriad companies that have popped up wanting to develop wind turbine farms.
This doesn’t mean that smaller groups like a farmers co-op couldn’t set up a turbine facility for their use.
She says the way the Liberals set up the Green Energy Act, taking away the power to discuss, from citizens and municipalities, has actuality turned people sour on green energy.
