Students across the province may be enjoy time off from school but it’s a different story for some teachers.
Bluewater District School Board elementary school teachers are in class for the next day or two in Collingwood, developing new skills.
Put on by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, participants are looking to find ways to marry literacy, math and science for the combined grade classrooms and to use technology, the arts, media and other techniques to make the learning fun for students.
The focus is on Grades 1 to 3 for putting the pieces of literacy together while the combined grade classroom course deals with the Grades 4 to 6 environment.
The three-day course ends on Thursday.
The 2011 Summer Academy is just one of many being offered throughout the province.
It’s expected some 15 hundred teachers will take advantage of the specialized courses.
