Forecasters predict today’s high will be in the lower 30s — but with the humidex, it will make it feel like it’s 40 celcius outside.
Environment Canada has issued a humidex advisory that covers all of Southern Ontario.
And it’s expected to be even hotter tomorrow.
Bayshore Broadcasting Weather Specialist John Wilson says the high pressure system is coming from the U-S.
Wilson expects some records to fall this week during the heatwave.
He notes we had this same mid-30 degree heat in 2005 and in 1988.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, saying a hot, tropical air mass is moving in.
Temperatures are expected in the mid-30’s on Thursday with humidity feeling more like the mid-40’s.
Records are expected to be broken all around our area.
Environment Canada says the high heat will continue Friday and into the weekend.
Health officials say the high heat and humidity heighten the risk of heat related illnesses including heat stress, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
They recommend you drink plenty of fluids and limit outdoor activity.
If you don’t have air conditioning, you should look for a library or other public building where you can cool off.
You are also asked to check on people most vulnerable at the heat — including young children, the elderly and people with medical conditions.
