Harnessing the power of the sun — that’s a lesson St. Anthony’s School students are going to learn first hand.
The school has received a renewable energy grant from the province to install solar panels on the school.
The project will cost 203 thousand dollars — the provincial government will cover 199 thousand dollars of the bill and the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board will cover the rest.
Catholic Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton says the solar project will provide curriculum opportunities regarding renewable energy.
The solar panels promise to generate an annual income of about nine thousand dollars and will pay for themselves in 25 years time.
Colton calls the project a wonderful opportunity to invest in green energy while using it as a teaching tool for students.
Work on the solar project is already underway and wrap up in late August.
