School may be out, but some staff at Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton are planning a trip.
The staff plan mission trips for students every year and have been to the Dominican Republic on their last three trips.
Organizer Peter King says they now have their eyes set on Nicaragua.
There is an orphanage relocation project that is currently underway.
King says the last three trips have been a great experience as the students have helped build schools, a medical clinic, sidewalks and a basketball court.
He says it’s very gratifying to see all that was accomplished in three short years
King is a retired Sacred Heart teacher — and he is planning to take 20 students with him on a two week excursion in mid March.
King recently traveled to Nicaragua to scope out the project and estimates at least six years of work.
He says it will be a powerful lesson in social justice and life.
He predicts the orphans will have the biggest impact on the students and their outlook on life forever.
The are over 300 orphans on site of the Nicaragua project.
Friends of the Orphans Canada is heading the project.
