The 16th annual Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Tournament was staged on Friday at the Saugeen Golf Club.
The event — which began as a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy in the mid 90’s — is named for Saugeen Shores resident Jeff Preston, who is afflicted with M-D, yet he fronts the golf tournament year after year.
There were almost 50 celebrities on hand, each celebrity heading a golf team entry of five.
Among those on hand were Port Elgin native Brett Maclean, Kincardine golfer Brianna Cooper and former Toronto Maple Leaf Bobby Baun
Through the years, the Jeff Preston Golf Tournament has generated more than one million dollars towards Muscular Dystrophy research and other projects.
This year, two cheques were presented.
Doctor Craig Campbell of the University of Western Ontario in London was presented a cheque for 15 thousand dollars for ongoing research into M-D.
And Rick Moss — representing Jesse’s Journey — was presented with a cheque in the amount of 10 thousand dollars.
