Officials at Chapman’s Ice Cream see no point in continuing to work with Grey Highlands Council.
The last straw for Chapman’s was a comment at Monday’s Council meeting threatening to shut off the water to their plant.
It all stems from a bad smell and from the amount of waste the company’s new plant was supposed to discharge into the Markdale waste water treatment plant.
Council has also fined Chapman’s close to nine thousand dollars for exceeding the amount of waste the company’s new plant was supposed to discharge into the towns system.
Vice President Ashley Chapman says council is being misinformed by their consultants — who have no idea what they’re talking about.
He cited one consultants report that said all of the water that goes into Chapman’s goes out into the Lagoon — which isn’t true because a high percentage of their is water.
With the relationship as rocky as it is now — Chapman says they’ve had enough and will now go to a contingency plan, which means they’re going off the grid.
He says they will now just build their own waste water systems.
Chapman add’s he isn’t sure if they will even attend a previous scheduled meeting with council today.
