A public inquest has been called in British Columbia into the shooting death of former Owen Sound resident Wilbert Bartley.
His mother Catherine heard the news from Bayshore Broadcasting News and tells us she’s going out west for the inquiry.
She had already planned on heading out to British Columbia soon to meet with Lorne Fisher, Crown prosecutor for the B-C Interior.
While she knew all along an inquest would happen, Bartley was baffled that nobody informed her about the news.
With little faith in police, Bartley is pleased a jury will look into the death of her 50 year old son.
While a the jury at in inquest does not lay blame, she hopes the truth about the police actions will come out.
No date has been set yet for the inquest.
Bartley was killed last July when he was shot by an RCMP officer in Kamloops after an altercation at a strip mall.
Calgary Police investigated the shooting and the Attorney General’s office concluded there was insufficient evidence to lay charges.
