A public meeting is being held this evening into plans to change the Development Charges in Saugeen shores.
A study of the town forecasts growth of approximately 100 new homes per year for the next 20 years, and significant commercial and industrial development at the same time.
Saugeen Shores Development Co-ordinator Jay Pausner says currently, the town only charges about 4 thousand dollars for water, wastewater, roads and other related services to a new home or housing development.
Pausner says if council decides to implement the full charges recommended in the study, that amount could jump to just over 12 thousand dollars for servicing.
Development charges do not affect existing homeowners, since they are applied to new construction.
Pausner says so far, they have had little feedback from Construction companies but that could change at the meeting tonight, or in the next few weeks.
Once the feedback is gathered on the proposed changes, council will decide later this summer whether to increase development fees in Saugeen Shores (no date).
The public meeting begins at 7:30 PM in the Council Chambers in Saugeen Shores.
